Sweden's newest ski resort in 30 years
As early as 1987, the vision was born of a new year-round resort with up to 10,000 beds on Himmeråsen in Idre. Much has happened since then, and today Idre Himmelfjäll is Sweden's youngest mountain destination - created with care for nature, family, and the future. Here, small-scale charm meets a big experience in a unique environment where the mountain is allowed to be just a mountain.
Since the beginning, the vision has been to create a place where both children and adults can experience the magic of the mountains at a calmer pace. The slopes wind gently between forest and mountain heath, the cabins blend into the landscape, and every detail is planned with respect for the environment.
Idre Himmelfjäll grows in step with the dream - a mountain that lives year-round with skiing, nature experiences, and community as its foundation. Here, memories, hope for the future, and a feeling of coming home to the mountain are created.
A unique place – shaped by the mountain and care for nature
Idre Himmelfjäll is beautifully nestled in magnificent mountain scenery, with Burusjön, the Städjan/Nipfjället nature reserve, and Idre Fjäll as its closest neighbors. In the area, there is Idre Sameby and their reindeer, which are a beloved and appreciated feature in the resort's cabins.
Himmelfjäll's natural conditions are especially suitable for families with children and have quickly become popular with this target group. In winter, the most attractive activities are alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The resort offers alpine skiing on green, blue, red, and finally also 1 black run that winds its way through “Colorado”-like turns (unlike large clear-cut, straight, wide runs).
Idre Himmelfjäll's alpine ski system will be adapted in all respects to the very special surroundings of old mountain forest, where the runs follow the terrain rather than crossing it. Idre Himmelfjäll shall be developed in the long term with consideration and respect for people, animals, and nature.

Our vision
Kerstin from Mora and Staffan from Bohuslän met in 1968. Sweet music arose, and they were married in Oxberg Chapel a few years later.
Kerstin's family owned a small mountain and forest property that extended like a wedge through the large forestry companies' land toward the summit of Himmeråsen in Idre.
On a brilliantly beautiful winter day in December 1987, Kerstin and Staffan took an all-day trip on Himmeråsen and visited its summit. “It was like standing in the middle of heaven, and both the vision and the name Idre Himmelfjäll came completely naturally, arriving like a sunbeam from a clear sky.”
Our Guiding Principles
Idre Himmelfjäll offers a complete winter experience and, in the long term, also a summer experience—with nature as the guide. Idre Himmelfjäll is shaped by its core principles: Family, Accessibility, and Nature.
Family
Family is Idre Himmelfjäll’s main target group. The goal is to offer the complete leisure destination for families—both summer and winter. The resort should be designed around the needs of families and be characterized by a family spirit, with activities and experiences for children and parents.
Accessibility
Idre Himmelfjäll aims to develop a resort that is accessible both in winter and summer. From the moment you book your trip until you hand in the cabin key. This means the need for a private car should decrease. At Idre Himmelfjäll, we aim to develop a resort where it is easy to eat, easy to join activities, easy to get out onto the slopes (all accommodation is within approx. 200 meters of the piste), close to the golf course, etc. This gives guests time together. The region is one of Sweden’s most accessible mountain areas, with a 4–6 hour drive from Stockholm, Västerås, Örebro, and Karlstad.
Nature
Nature and the Swedish wilderness are ever-present at Idre Himmelfjäll. Guests can enjoy experiences in a fantastic natural and wilderness setting. The direct connection to the Städjan and Nipfjället nature reserve gives guests a unique stay in untouched Swedish nature. The unique nature is one of the Idre region’s greatest competitive advantages compared with other areas in Sweden and the world. Idre Himmelfjäll should offer both “natural” and actively developed activities—summer and winter alike. Everything from building materials and architecture to energy supply and transportation should work in harmony with the sensitive mountain environment.
